Secrets

It occurred to me the other day that I don't have any secrets. There is not one secret that at least one person doesn't know about me, and I want to try and change that. I've just always been the person that wears her heart on her sleeve, and while a lot of the time it is a blessing, I think it would benefit me to not do that. So my latest secret is that I'm going to be keeping secrets...oh crap. This could very well be my biggest challenge.

Pioneers knock my socks off!

It's so true, they do! I went to San Diego over Spring Break with Heidi, and we had the opportunity to go to the Mormon Battalion, and I LOVED IT! It was very Disneyland-esque with the portraits on the wall that interact with the elders or sisters leading the tour. Then we went from room to room all decorated like we were there, you know, walking across the US. For those that don't know the Mormon Battalion was the one of the longest marches in military history that went from Council Bluffs, Iowa to San Diego, California. Mormons were persecuted in the United States and "asked" to leave, but then asked for 500 volunteers to help in the war against Mexico. Brigham Young promised the men (and some women and children) that if they were faithful to Jesus Christ, kept their heart and minds pure, and prayed often they wouldn't have to fight a single battle. And they didn't. It was a way for the church to move west, and various irrigation and farming techniques learned and used in that march are what helped to build modern day Salt Lake. Anyway, I just loved it. I feel like I have such a connection to pioneer stories and they always remind me that my life isn't as bad as it may seem at times and to just KEEP GOING! They had such faith and strength, and I look up to them.

When we first got there one of the sister missionaries was very much in sister-missionary mode. And she was dressed in full pioneer costume. I couldn't focus on her talking about the battalion or the faith of the men...to lighten her up a little I looked her up and down and said, "Did you bring that dress yourself or do they provide that for you?" She smiled and rolled her eyes, "No, they gave it to me. I wouldn't even know where to find this..." It was so hilarious. She seemed to relax a little and we had a good time. The best part is..they take your picture and print it for free!

A few things I've learned this week

This week has caused a few things in my mind (that I felt were already clear) to really be emphasized.
1.) The signs that say "Do not back up: severe tire damage"..they're not joking.
2.) When your arm gets tired from curling your hair...don't rest it when the metal is near your forehead. It will leave a brown mark of burnt skin.
3.) Don't place said iron on the ground where you walk...[see above].
4.) I really love theatre. I had a group presentation analyzing Broadway Divas, who, what, when, where, and WHY. I love that last one. I love making people think, and turning it on them for what society has told them their opinion should be. We all break out of our box, and it's awesome. I got to present on Bette Midler. I could have taught the entire 50 minute class, but I had about 4 minutes. So I used 7.

Sidewalk ridiculousness

This thought has occurred to me many a times, so I finally decided to blog about it. You know when a sidewalk changes directions at a 90 degree angle? And how VERY few people, if ANY, actually walk in the path of the sidewalk to change directions? I know that I definitely cut across, reducing the time it takes me from point A to point B by 0.02 seconds. I just feel better knowing that I am taking the quickest path. Every time I go to Lindsay and Megan's I walk on the rocks rather than the cement and I wonder why they don't just make sidewalks that curve more often. I'm just sayin.

Sleeeep

So I had a few things listed for my weekend To Do List.
1. Start...and finish FSCS midterm
2. Start reading...and finish reading West Side Story
3. Practice song for Sunday
4. SLEEP

The only thing that got done this weekend was sleep. I had gotten almost 9 hours of sleep combined Wednesday and Thursday evenings....so when Friday rolled around I was pooped. Didn't get a chance to uh go to the Institute Dance that I helped plan because I fell asleep at 7:45pm. I then woke up 1:00am, ate a grapefruit, went back to bed, and woke up at 9am. It was GLORIOUS. Jam packed day of errand running, group meetings, and birthday parties then proceeded. Now...I have to do homework on Sunday, which isn't good, but it was kind of worth it. I haven't slept that well in FOREVS.

What the...

I woke up this morning and right when I sat up I could feel that one of my feet was without the sock I had fallen asleep in. Then I looked to my left, and it was below my pillow. How it got near my head, I have no idea.

Text Message

Boy: Want to go to the Gaslight Friday?
Girl: I wish I could, but I'm going to be out of town!

One week later

Girl: Do you like Jazz?
Boy: That's random, but yes, I like Jazz. Why?
Girl: Well there's a place in Tucson that plays live Jazz that's free, and I feel bad for bailing out on the Gaslight.
Boy: Yeah, that sounds fun! Can I text you later? I'm on a date right now. :)

Roni (friend): Let me scope my ward.

Yeah...that's real life folks.
